Welcome

Come and discover the contemplative beauty of Swallow Hill twenty minutes due west of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Your host and Nutmeg, the friendly Springer Spaniel, will welcome you to the casual and comfortable atmosphere. Situated on sixteen acres, the house sits on a slight rise at the edge of an open meadow where the swallows swoop in summer, and with expansive views towards the Berkshires.

In the hills above the Connecticut River Valley and within reasonable driving distance (30 minutes) to Amherst, Deerfield and the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, Swallow Hill is located in the scenic hilltown of Chesterfield, home of the Chesterfield Gorge, and its fine fishing. Perfect for a day trip to Tanglewood, Lenox or Mass Moca, with Jacobs Pillow on the way home, Swallow Hill will welcome you back to its gentle peace, quiet magic, and a feeling of home. Make a reservation on-line or email us - look under Availability, Contact & Directions.

Spring is springing, finally.

I looked out one day last week as the sun was lowering in the sky to see three deer cropping the newly greening grass about fifty feet from the house. Of course they moved as I ran for my camera, but did stay just long enough a couple of photos. They are beautiful to watch and they will leap over fairly high fences from a standstill. The light and color at this time of the year catches my breath. The brilliantly pale green tips of new growth on the trees will soon arrive. Fruit trees will blossom, grass already is greening, the sun setting later. Come and see for yourself. It's a great time to visit Swallow Hill where you can sit at the end of the day, have a cup of tea, and watch the colors play on the fields as the sunset colors the sky.
