Come and discover the contemplative beauty of Swallow Hill twenty minutes due west of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts. Your host and Nutmeg, the friendly Springer Spaniel, will welcome you to the casual and comfortable atmosphere. Situated on sixteen acres, the house sits on a slight rise at the edge of an open meadow where the swallows swoop in summer, and with expansive views towards the Berkshires.

In the hills above the Connecticut River Valley and within reasonable driving distance (30 minutes) to Amherst, Deerfield and the Berkshires of Western Massachusetts, Swallow Hill is located in the scenic hilltown of Chesterfield, home of the Chesterfield Gorge, and its fine fishing. Perfect for a day trip to Tanglewood, Lenox or Mass Moca, with Jacobs Pillow on the way home, Swallow Hill will welcome you back to its gentle peace, quiet magic, and a feeling of home. Swallow Hill goes SOLAR! and Happy New Year.

April 13, 2014. This year I can't say the bluebirds are back because I have seen them all winter long eating berries just outside my window. But it is heavenly to see them sitting on the bird houses and thinking about Springtime activities, and competing with the returning Swallows for nesting space. In another month practically to the day, we will have humming birds. I'm still feeding the birds and have cardinals, downy and hairy woodpeckers and in the early morning I've seen a red bellied woodpecker. Of course we have the regular visitors too, fox, geese, ducks, goldfinch beginning to sprout their yellow plumage, nuthatches, and chickadees. Today, we have sun, some grass that looks as if it will burst forth with green and a true feeling of new beginnings. The snow fence is down, the willow cut for tomato and bean posts, and raking has begun. It's getting to be that time of the year for a Spring break. Come to Swallow Hill for some R and R. Here we still try to please and surprise, and make you feel right at home. Come to walk, to read, to relax, to dine in Northampton or to simply get away and renew. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a country weekend. Come to SWALLOW HILL! Email or call for reservations.

Older news. Dateline November 17, 2013.   This evening I was able to switch the switch and first thing on Monday morning, a bright, sunny day, Swallow Hill started generating its own SOLAR POWER. It's a heady feeling. And the excitement lasts and lasts. Talking to others who generate, I am told that this feeling does eventually dissipate after a couple of years. But oh what fun it is right now. You don't see the panels from the road. They are on the side roof facing South of course!
